The Angel’s land at… FogBound Blues

Blue’s. Like it or hate it, most of us have, at one point or another sat down and listened to one of the many sub-genre’s that the main genre of “Blue’s” covers. It could be old-school bluegrass, “Bar” (12, 16, 18 bar etc) blues, Memphis Blues, Urban Blues or the multitude of modern era blue’s stemming from the massive resurgence of Blue’s into modern pop that happened in the 50’s and 60’s. There’s no getting away from it though. Blue’s as a musical genre shaped and moulded the charts of the 1960’s and 1970’s and is still going strong to this day…which is why for the next “Angel’s Land At” review, we thought we would visit a blue’s club. FogBound Blues.

The front entrance

FogBound is one of the old school Blues clubs in Second Life, in fact, it’s so old, even the building is still made in old-school prims, hardly a sign of mesh (or sculpts for that matter) are to be seen in the main building. The way I see it though, if it ain’t broke…don’t fix it, and that old-school charm of the main building, with its pictures of great blue’s artists of the past on the walls, coupled with the slightly run-down look of the place does give it a bit of charm.

The main stage and dance area

The club follows that old classic “Big Barn” style but with the added addition of a windowed ceiling, so at least the middle of the dancefloor does get a bit of lighting in on it if you have advanced lighting on. One one side of the dancefloor there is the bar, with ample seating for at least 10 people and on the opposite side is the main stage with the live DJ’s.

The FogBound region

FogBound also has the added benefit of having its own region, two infact, but I think the second region is mostly homes. The main FogBound region has a mini shopping mall with what looks like a few hand-picked stores, a photo/media gallery and a lot of wide-open sort of “Deep South” looking landscaping…I say sort of cause there hints of Mediterranean in there as well.

The actual club vibe is, as you would expect, very chilled. Myself and Lizzy went there on numerous occasions (with Fen tagging along sometimes) and for a club which had 50+ people in it, local chat was busy, but not mind-blowingly frantic like what you get at Peak Lounge or Muddy’s during peak hours. The music from the live DJ’s also covers basically the entirety of the “Blue’s” genre. In one evening we listened to bluegrass, 1930’s “Tin Pan” blues, classics of the 1950’s, going through to the modern era of blues of the late 60’s to the current crop of blue’s artists.

The owners of Fogbound probably decided long ago to open up the club to the entire range of Blue’s, not just the old style, but modern and country blue’s styles as well, a decision which was a good one, cause anytime we have gone to FogBound there’s always more than 30 people in it, and that’s even with the automatic DJ (not live) running…VERY few clubs can say they can hold 30+ people without a live DJ.

Me and Lizzy (Fen was at work)

If you are a fan of blue’;s as a genre, or, you simply want to chill out to some chilled blues music (and sometimes even the faster 18 or 24 bar blues), then FogBound might be a place you’ll want to visit…tell them Charlie’s Angel’s sent you! 🙂
