Opening Your Own Gym

Originally, I wasn’t going to include this part. Running an SML Partnered Gym requires land, a fair chunk of that at that due to the power lifting equipment being…VERY large. As you read in the previous main articles, most of the folks who will TP into your gym will essentially be AFK using the MTP HUD to farm the boards, who will then TP back in hours later, grab the freebies, and instantly teleport out.

I’ll speak plainly here…running an SML gym can be a thankless endeavour, especially if you limit yourself to the “Level 15” beginner equipment.

The “Level 15” equipment

However. Running a gym, especially if it has the level 30 power equipment, means that you will get guaranteed visitors, ok, most of them are AFK, but when they return to grab the freebie, they will be at the keyboard and looking around, even if only for a minute or so. Running a gym isn’t just about throwing out the equipment and slapping the boards up, running a gym is about how the gym looks and, more importantly, feels. You will need to bring something different or new to the table if you want your gym to succeed, and when I say succeed, I mean have people randomly TP in and decide to actually work out. Take the Fitness Factory for instance…

Fitness Factory Main Floor

It’s one of the largest and best-equipped SML gyms currently out there. Fightality Boxing system, MyStory compatible chill out zone in the middle, saunas, hot tubs, and massage tables with an empty floor above the saunas for the possibility of an event club that may open inside the gym soon. We decided to basically throw everything at the factory from what we learned from our original gym, “Fit & Lit” which started in New Haven and moved to Magnolia City.

If you want your gym to last…it has to offer something extra.

Getting Into The Partnered System

So, still want to go ahead? Awesome! Here’s my first piece of advice. Wait until you are level 30, that’s “green bar” level 30, not Strength 30. At Level 30, all gym equipment buying limitations are lifted, and you can buy the Level 15 beginner equipment, the Level 30 power equipment, and set them out all at the same time.

Everything you need to set up your gym initially can be found at Flexington Heights main SML store. You will basically want to buy everything. All the gym equipment, the supplements pack, and the SML System pack.

Once you have your gym laid out, you need to return to Flexington Heights and pick up the Partner Gym Application box, which you can find on the top right corner of the partnered gym boards at Flexington…

It’s the box that says “SML Partner Gym Register”.

Inside that box you will find the registration prim. Put that prim box somewhere on your gym parcel and follow the instructions to the letter. Certain land description and title rules need to be followed before the registration box will accept the application and automatically send it to the owner of the SML system.

It will take 2 to 4 days for the prim to let you know if you have been accepted or if you have missed something in the process. The floating text above the prim will let you know what went wrong. If you get accepted, the box will turn to normal brightness, and you can then left-click on the registration box and get the daily boards delivered to you, which will be the final part of setting your gym up.

Once the daily boards are out, the MTP HUD Database will latch on to the main partner gym boards, and your gym will eventually make it on to the MTP HUD daily rounds within 24 to 48 hours of you being accepted.

We have been using the SML system for a number of years now. We have seen gyms come and go, but the major ones that are still around have been around for years…because they usually offer something most other gyms don’t offer. Whether that be a lot of spotters, as is the case of Maelstrom Muscle, or whether that be offering something different to the rest of the gyms out there.

Either way, running an SML Gym can be a lot of fun, and it can also be a headache at the same time!

Well, that about wraps things up for the compendium. I hope this guide has made SML a little easier for you; it was written with the new folks in mind after all.

If you found this guide helpful and feel like tipping, head on over to The Fitness Factory and throw a few lindens into the donation thermometer. Running a gym the size of the Factory isn’t cheap!
