Today, from 9am till 5pm SLT, is the Magnolia City open house day where folks can pop into the two regions that currently make up the city before it officially opens up tomorrow for the opening ceremony. To say me and Fen were impressed is an understatement.

Magnolia City is based in the south part of Florida, which is an area of the United States which isnt covered as much in the RP community, with most of them being in the north part of the United States and some being based around the west coast, the south east coast is something you dont see much of outside of single showpeice regions for hotels.
The Town Hall
The city is launching with two complete regions, with the region that holds the town hall being a mix of residential and businesses. The second region concentrates more on the residential side. Magnolia is also launching with some of the basics of the RP side already in place, or about to be in place. Police and Medical are covered along with the DMV for petrol heads like myself and Fenny.

It’s not just a case of having houses and businesses, for an RP town to work, you need scenery, and for a place like Florida, you need REALLY good scenery…

For a place as well travelled by holiday makers like Florida, the feel of the place has to match up with the description. In the case of a lot of the northern state based RP communities there is a much wider range of styles and themes which can be used, New Haven and Ceder Creek are two examples of this. The further south in the United States you go, and more importantly the further south and east you go, you start to run into stricter mixed themes. In the case of Florida you have a mix of latin, spanish and colonial. Ontop of all that, you have the “modern” themes of the United States you need to cram in.

Theme’s is where a lot of places fall apart when it comes to RP communities in Second Life. In the realms of RP communities which are basing themselves off of a particular place or area three words rule. Context, is king.
Taking in everything that is on the two regions, the way it is landscaped, the way the details have been managed, myself and Fenny can honestly say that Magnolia not only looks gorgeous, it has the context and feel of being in south Florida. Fenny said it best…it’s one of our top 10 regions we have visited,. and trust me, we have been to a lot of regions. As far as we have heard, there is already a third region being planned.
From myself and fenny (Lizzy hasnt seen the place yet lol) well done on Magnolia City, we look forward to living there!
