The Workouts & Consumables

So you have your HUD attached, and you are ready to go? Part 2 covers all you need to know about the core of SML…the workouts!

There are two types of gym equipment in SML. Direct strength and strength modifiers. They both do the same thing, they help you level up, but each type has a different way of working. Left-clicking on any piece of SML equipment will give you a local chat rundown of what strengths are required to use each exercise.

Direct Weight

Direct weight equipment will spit out an info set like this. This is taken from the Preacher Bench…

EzCurl : require 1 Strength
EzCurl_W1 : require 3 Strength
EzCurl_W2 : require 7 Strength
EzCurl_W3 : require 12 Strength
EzCurl_W4 : require 21 Strength
EzCurl_W5 : require 44 Strength
RightDumb : require 11 Strength
LeftDumb : require 11 Strength
HammerCurl : require 12 Strength
BarbellCurl : require 10 Strength
BarbellC_W1 : require 15 Strength
BarbellC_W2 : require 25 Strength
BarbellC_W3 : require 52 Strength
BarbellC_W4 : require 77 Strength
BarbellC_W5 : require 99 Strength
BarbellC_W6 : require 123 Strength
BarbellC_W7 : require 140 Strength
BarbellC_W8 : require 157 Strength
BarbellC_W9 : require 182 Strength
BarbellC_W10 : require 195 Strength
BarbellC_W11 : require 210 Strength
BarbellC_W12 : require 225 Strength
BarbellC_W13 : require 240 Strength
BarbellC_W14 : require 255 Strength
BarbellC_W15 : require 270 Strength
BarbellC_W16 : require 285 Strength
BarbellC_W17 : require 300 Strength
BarbellC_W18 : require 315 Strength
BarbellC_W19 : require 330 Strength
BarbellC_W20 : require 345 Strength

From there, you can see which exercise requires what Strength, then it’s just a case of sitting on the equipment, and choose which workout you want from the pop up. Lets say I am currently at 21 Strength, I would choose EzCurl_W4, like this…

Simple as that for the direct weight equipment. Sit on the equipment and choose the workout closest or matching your strength.

Weight Modifier

Weight modifier equipment needs a little basic maths in order to figure out which one to use. Take, for instance, the Crossover, which, when left-clicked, spits out this…

[Weight2: +5, Weight3: +25, Weight4: +55, Weight5: +90, Weight6: +130 Strength]
HeroCurl : require 1 Strength
CableChest : require 5 Strength
UpperChest : require 10 Strength
LeftChest : require 15 Strength
RightChest : require 15 Strength
PushDown : require 13 Strength
TricepExt : require 23 Strength
BicepCurl : require 18 Strength
RearDelt : require 36 Strength
LateralRaise : require 27 Strength
LeftLateral : require 20 Strength
RightLateral : require 20 Strength
PullBack : require 32 Strength
BarDown : require 26 Strength
CableCrunch : require 29 Strength
PullUp : require 25 Strength
ChinUp : require 30 Strength
LeftChinUp : require 60 Strength
RightChinUp : require 60 Strength
KneeUp : require 28 Strength
SideKneeUp : require 32 Strength
LegRaise : require 19 Strength

The list has the baseline strength required to directly use that workout. However, on the top line, there are modifiers that increase the strength needed for that workout. So, let’s say I am strength 150. I would obviously need to use the “Weight6” modifier. Looking down the list, I see right and left lateral is at baseline 20 Strength. Weight6 at 130, plus the baseline of right or left lateral = 150!

Here’s how this looks on the menus…

The Basics Of Working Out

SML Working out on the SML system is simple. As you can see by the videos on this page, it’s just a case of making sure your HUD is on, then sitting on the piece of equipment you want to work out on, making sure you select the strength that’s on, or closest to your strength level. As a helpful guide, there is a Strength Level 1 to 100 Info Notecard in the “Starter Info Pack” at the back of the gym.

Alternatively, you can use the SML Compendium HUD, which spits out a list of gym equipment and what weights to use based on the strength level that you input. This HUD comes in very useful when going over 100 Strength. You can pick up the HUD at The Fitness Factory.

The Stamina circle is the next thing you will need to keep an eye on, basically, all the time. NEVER (and I mean NEVER) let that circle get into the red or run out completely when working out, because it will take a very long time to recharge. Instead, “bunny hop” on and off the equipment when the Stamina Circle hits purple.

The two following videos show you why…the first video shows you how long the stamina circle takes to charge in real time if left to go halfway into the red…

On the recharge of the Stamina Circle, you’ll also notice something else, the Fatigue Counter also counts down while recharging stamina so this means the longer you are waiting for stamina to recharge, the less time you will have left to work out. Compare that to the following video which shows the “bunny hop” method of getting off the equipment just as the stamina circle goes into the purple…

What you will notice about the above video is that I managed to actually work out a little more compared to the first video. This bunny hopping method will be VERY tedious on low levels. You will have very little stamina in the main pool, so that blue circle will be draining very fast. This is why I said on the first page of this SML Compendium that putting your level up extras into Stamina, rather than strength, means that not only can you work out longer, but it also makes the bunny hopping on the larger power lifting equipment not as tedious!

There are ways, however, to increase your stamina pool and also increase how quickly it will recharge. The consumables!

The consumables are those bottles that you will see on racks, tables, shelves, or various holding systems (sometimes even on the floor) of all gyms in the SML system. Like a real life gym, SML gyms have consumables. Whey Powders, Protein Powders, Energy Drinks…they are all in the SML system as well. Some of them increase your baseline strength, some of them increase your baseline stamina. The image below shows you what each of them do…

Some of these consumable bottles you will rarely use; others, however, you will use a lot, especially as you climb up the strength levels. We will be covering the most efficient use of the consumables in the very last part of this compendium….Part 6: The Ultimate Way To Work Out.

The beginner levels, generally level 1 to level 50 are the toughest for someone new. Does it get easier? Yes, it does, especially with the spotting system and the consumables, because if you do follow this compedium and take into account ALL of its hints and tips, you will be able to fly through those first 100 strength levels in no time. As you climb up the weight ratings on the equipment, you will find yourself getting into a rhythm with how you use the equipment for SML, which will carry you forward as you make your way into the Power Lifting equipment, which you saw me use in the last two videos on this page.

However, before we get into ways of making you climb those strength and level ranks that little bit quicker, we need to lay some of the groundwork. In order to grab a good constant supply of those consumables, you need gold. Read on into Part 3: Gold, The Dailys & The Daily Workouts!
