Getting Started & Getting To Know The HUD
So, you are standing in The Fitness Factory, or any other of the 60+ gyms for SML, and you are wondering where you should start? Well, let’s start right at the very beginning.
Getting the HUD
No matter which SML gym you are in, you will have to grab the HUD first of all. The HUD is what runs the points and levelling system, and without the HUD, you won’t be able to actually use the SML gym equipment.
If you are The Fitness Factory, the HUD giver looks like this.

In most other gyms, the HUD giver looks like this…

Left (not right, LEFT) click on the HUD and you will get a message in local chat to join the main SML Gym group, click on that link in your local chat, join the group, and left click on the HUD giver again. You should now have an object in your objects folder named [SML] Training HUD[BOX]. Head to a sandbox, or, if the gym you are in allows rezzing, rez the package on the ground, open it, and copy the contents to your inventory.
What you will now end up with, is the SML HUD folder in your inventory. Find the object called [SML] Training HUD (ver2.0)_Beta, right click on it, and “Add”. The HUD should now be showing on your screen…although not with the levels the included picture below has, since you are a new user to the system.

So, before we go on any further, lets gets to know the HUD that you are gonna be looking at while you are working out!

State
Denotes what the HUD is doing when it comes to the Stamina pool below it. Green means all charged and ready and working out. It will turn yellow during rest & recovering stamina. It will turn blue with strength matching or a workout that’s not supported.
Daily Workouts
This single button will be one of your regular ways to workout, and also bring in Gold. Click on it, and a list will appear that looks like this…

Clicking on each one will tell you in chat what equipment you need to use to do that particular workout. As you work out for that exercise, the bar will slowly go up until finally it will turn green and a free consumable will light up, left-click on that consumable, and it will go into the first available slot in your consumables bar. From there, left click and use it…or…left click and sell it to get gold!. At 5pm (Second Life Time) the SML system “resets”. This means that the daily workouts are reset.

Level Indicator
There are two progress systems for SML. Your Level, and your Strength. At the top of the HUD, the numbers indicate what number you need to reach the next level (num on the right) and where you are right now on your current level (num to the left). The green bar underneath it is a graphical representation of your progression to the next level up.
At the time of writing this compendium (April, 2026), the HUD has been in Beta Stage 2 for well over a year. Between the two levelling systems, the actual “Level” is only applicable if you want to open your own gym.
The SML gym equipment can only be bought at Flexington Heights (the HQ for SML) if you reach levels 15 and 30. Level 15 equipment is the “Starter” equipment, which is for folks from strength Level 1 to around strength level 350~400. When you hit level 15, you can purchase all the beginner-level equipment, the SML package, and essentially open your own beginner’s gym.
Level 30 is when you can purchase the “Power Lifting” equipment. That’s the MASSIVE black/dark grey equipment that SML users at strength level 400 and above all use.
Strength
This is the all-important one. You will find that the strength levels progress much faster than the main green bar levels. The higher in strength you are, the heavier weights you can lift. It’s as simple as that.
Gold
Gold in SML is used to buy all of the consumables that you will inevitably use in SML. It’s also used to buy a lot of the addons that add more functionality to the HUD as well. More about those addons at the end of this page.
Fatigue
The fatigue timer is one that you will learn to hate after a while. Over the course of a 24-hour period, you are allocated a certain amount of workout time, that’s what the fatigue meter is for. At its baseline, once that meter runs out, that’s it, you are done for the day. However, there are ways around it to get more workout time after that fatigue meter runs out. We’ll be covering that later. The Fatuigue counter, along with the Daily Boards and the Daily Worksouts reset at 5pm (Second Life Time).
Consumables Bar
Anytime you gain a consumable from the Daily Workout system, buy one from a gym, or gain one from the daily boards, the consumable is added to the consumables bar on the hud…

Once it’s there, you have two options: you can left-click on it to use it or left-click on it to sell it and gain gold. There is an extra third option if you decide to purchase the sports bag: you can move items from the bar into the sports bag to free up slots on the main consumables bar.
Stamina
Out of all the sections of the HUD you will be looking at the most, the stamina circle is the one you will be constantly keeping an eye on. As you work out, that stamina circle will slowly drain, first of all going down to purple…

…and then going into the red…

Unless you are using stamina refillers…NEVER let the Stamina circle get into the red. If you work out and let the stamina drop into the red, it will take far longer to recharge itself as you work out. It’s best to stand up from the piece of equipment you are working out on when that stamina circle reaches purple; that way, it recovers a lot faster.
The “Hidden” Button
There is one more button which only shows up when you hit a new “green bar” (not Strength) level…this one…

That little gold + sign will appear whenever you reach a new level. Clicking on it gives you two options…add more Stamina to your baseline pool (so you can work out a little longer) or add extra levels of strength to your baseline Strength pool.
Personally…each time I have levelled, I always put it into Stamina. When you get to the higher levels of working out, especially on the power levelling equipment (Strength 400+), that stamina circle starts to drain VERY fast. Having that extra stamina in there means that you won’t be spending as much gold on stamina refills as you work out with a spotter…more about spotters and refills later on.
SML HUD Extras & Attachables

The SML wristband is an avatar attachment which comes in very handy if you are working out on multiple pieces of equipment during the day. The 5 most recent workouts, along with the weight used for those workouts, are stored by the wristband so the next time you sit on that piece of equipment (and if it hasn’t been pushed out of the recent five) you will automatically start working out at that weight level and exercise that you last used.

If you are going to buy only one addition for the SML system, it will be this one. Comes in VERY handy if you are going to start doing the Daily Board farming rounds or usiing spotting to increase your weight limit.

The final two you will either rarely, or never use. The Recovery system is there incase you have lost levels in your Str and main level. This rarely happens and only ever happens if you leave the HUD attached during a teleport that fails. The reset level-up points do what it says on the texture…
That’s it for the full introduction to the HUD!
Let’s move on to Part 2: The Workouts & Consumables
